Mulrennan, a respected figure with more than 1,000 career wins, has granted Mail Sport a chance to sample a day in a jockey’s life. This is an insight into self-sacrifice and discipline, the pushing of physical limits and the ability to deal with loneliness and frustration.

Nobody ever said the pursuit of winners is easy but, over the course of 10 hours, it was possible to get a new level of understanding about what effort is put in just to get a ride.
